Vol. V, Issue 2 Take the Desk Out of Help Desk July 2007

Gulliver had his travels. Odysseus had his odyssey. Aeroprise recently embarked on a similarly epic journey: to take the desk out of help desk. Think about it. So much of the value your support organization provides gets trapped behind the desk.

Vol. III, Issue 11 Four Devices You Want Right Now November 2005

As you might imagine, we're passionate (some say "fanatical") about all things mobile and wireless. One of the healthier byproducts of our zeal is is that we spend an inordinate amount of time analyzing, evaluating, and testing new devices.

What wireless company can boast products that have been deployed on more than 900 million handsets around the globe and over 600 mobile phone platforms? Or that over 100,000 developers are creating apps for its platform?

Vol. III, Issue 9 Wireless Plays Critical Role in Crisis Response Efforts September 2005

Vol. III, Issue 3 Dude, Where's My Carrier? March 2005

In 2000, Ashton Kutcher didn't know that his B movie would describe the state of the US wireless industry in 2005. But to the nearly 14.5 million customers of Nextel and 22 million customers of AT&T Wireless it does. Dude, who do I pay now? Dude, did my SLA change? Dude, will my rates increase.

Vol. III, Issue 1
A Conversation with Laura Nuhaan,
Executive Director of the IBBUG
January 2005

"BlackBerry" has entered the business professional's canon much like "Kleenex", "Band-Aid", and "Tivo" have for consumers. In our predictions for 2005 last month, we forecast increased enterprise penetration for the BlackBerry platform as usage extends beyond wireless email.

Vol. II, Issue 12 2004 Year In Review December 2004

2004 saw the return of the Olympics to Athens, the defeat of the blue states by the red ones, the breakup of Ben and J. Lo, and the emergence of a much-heralded new category of mobile employee: the laptop-less road warrior whose office is a mobile device. Five key trends finally made that shift possible this year...

Vol. II, Issue 11 Can You Hear Me Now? November 2004

In February, we discussed the wireless industry's "dirty secret" - "anywhere, any time" coverage only works some of the time in some places. As we near the end of what has been a significant year for mobile data solutions (see this announcement from BlackBerry), we're proud to announce the next generation of Aeroprise products. More than ever, they work like you do - all places at all times, regardless of how many bars you have.

This month we begin the first in a series of interviews with thought leaders in the mobile industry. Think of us as the Suzanne Somers of the mobile world: in just five short minutes each month we'll boost your wireless fitness level...one insight at a time.

Vol. II, Issue 7 Ring Ring... It's Your Data Calling July 2004
In the '50s, phones were for talking. And poodle skirts were fashionable. And cars had fins. And Eisenhower was president. In the 21st century, phones are for voice and data. There are almost a billion of them and they're almost all capable of doing the things you do at your desktop. Only better because they're always at your side.

Vol. II, Issue 6 WiMAX: The Evolution of Wireless Broadband June 2004
Last month we talked about the most common types of wireless networks. We made only brief mention of Wi-Fi, the 802.11x family of wireless networks, and even briefer mention of WiMAX, its long-range cousin. Every wireless expert should know at least the cocktail party summary of the WiMAX story.

Vol. II, Issue 5 An Introduction To Wireless Data Networks May 2004
Over the past few months we've talked about wireless security, devices, and real-time connectivity vs. batch processing. Wireless 101 forges ahead this month with an analysis of the most common types of wireless networks.

Vol. II, Issue 4 The Perfect Device For You April 2004
We're asked all the time what device we recommend. Our old answer didn't satisfy anyone: "whatever you already have." In this newsletter we'll share one that's more useful.

There are more than 300 mobile phones alone on the market today. The chart below clearly isn't exhaustive but it's a starting point. Our advice: try multiple devices. You'll be happier with what you end up with if you do.

Vol. II, Issue 3 Wireless Security: How Scared Should You Be? March 2004
Wireless is a snake pit full of venomous, packet sniffing vermin. Or is it?

We've informally surveyed hundreds of the most grizzled security gurus in the business. The responses we've received  span many languages and continents and we've exchanged many pastries soliciting them. The opinions differ wildly in many ways but they all have one thing in common: they confirm that "wireless" security is not the enemy. That bears repeating: wireless security is NOT the enemy.

Vol. II, Issue 2 The Wireless Industry's Dirty Secret February 2004
One of the ironic things about "wireless" applications is that they aren't always wireless. Billions of dollars have been spent building infrastructure to support billions of mobile devices (no kidding, 1.6 per person in Taiwan and even more in Scandinavia). And yet you and I can't drive to Starbucks without dropping a call.

Vol. II, Issue 1 Anatomy of a Wireless Project January 2004
As you dust off last year's wireless wish list we thought we'd share a few useful from-the-trenches tips customers have shared with us. At this point everyone agrees they'll be using desktop applications in the field soon if they aren't already. But what stands between where you are now and that grab-the-brass-ring project you envision? To guarantee your answer is "nothing" heed this advice:

Vol. I, Issue 11 Happy Holidays! December 2003
The Aeroprise economy is growing every day. We're proud to welcome our newest partners and customers to the family. In 2003, we welcomed partners on four continents and new users from all corners of the world. Vol. I, Issue 10 Wireless In Retail November 2003
You've got applications for PCs. They're great with one exception: you've got mobile employees. What next?
We'll be profiling customer success stories in the months ahead. Maybe you'll learn what others in your industry are doing, maybe you'll learn about best practices from successful wireless projects, maybe you'll be inspired. First up: wireless in retail.

Vol. I, Issue 9 Sound Familiar? October 2003
We're always assessing attitudes toward enterprise wireless deployments. We've seen an interesting trend emerging in recent months and we thought you should know about it.
IT organizations across industries are making wireless a priority after exploring, planning, and postponing during 2002 and the first part of 2003. Here are excerpts from a discussion we had recently with university CIOs at the Wireless Summit at Dartmouth College:

Vol. I, Issue 8 Your Future is Wireless Sept. 2003
Think about the important things you do. How many of them happen at your desk? That fact isn't lost on the myriad companies vying for your wireless attention. At last week's DEMOmobile 2003 conference in La Jolla, California, Aeroprise and 36 of the other hottest wireless companies gathered for three days of high-frequency, high-stakes demo roulette. Amid the media frenzy we saw talking dogs, a banjo serenade, and oh yeah, some of the wireless products you'll be using in the years ahead.

Vol. I, Issue 7 Wireless Heats Up August 2003
This month we debut the Aeroprise Index of Wireless Activity, a progress meter that will take the pulse of enterprise wireless activity in the months and years ahead. You know you need to mobilize your applications. Wouldn't it be great if you knew what everyone else is doing as they're doing it? We have our ears as close to the ground as ever and we think you'll benefit by having access to the most in-depth coverage of meta-issues affecting the wireless industry. Stay tuned to this space and increase your wireless IQ - one month at a time.

Vol. I, Issue 6 Wireless Struts Down Main Street July 2003
Walk into any Wal-Mart or K-Mart or Target today and you'll see racks of pre-paid cell phones hanging beside the Snickers bars and marshmallow bunnies. Like it or not, wireless technology has infiltrated Main Street and it's here to stay. Forrester Research predicts that mobile phone users will soon outnumber landline users by a ratio of 3 to 2. They also estimate 79% market penetration for wireless data within the next five years. ABI research adds that Wi-Fi hot spot penetration will grow by 121% year-over-year through 2008.

Vol. I, Issue 5 The Great Myth of Wireless Infrastructure June 2003
Achilles had that heel, Sisyphus had that rock, Medusa had that 'do - and today's nascent wireless industry's got vertigo in a bad way. Carriers and customers have managed to confuse the pants off each other. What about those competing networks? What about that alphabet soup of specs and protocols?

Vol. I, Issue 4 Driving Carrier Cost Recovery Strategies May 2003
Carriers built the infrastructure to support 1999 but 2001 showed up. As a consequence, there is unprecedented over-capacity - Titanic pipes transporting tugboat data. All major wireless carriers are looking for mobile data to stimulate demand. According to Andy Reinhardt of BusinessWeek, "Carriers need massive, enthusiastic adoption of info-on-the-go to justify the billions they're pouring into network infrastructure. "Thanks in part to Aeroprise, the pipe is filling up."

Vol. I, Issue 3 Got Aeroprise? April 2003
Thanks for your support at the 2003 Remedy User Group. We enjoyed meeting so many of you! The Aeroprise family is growing every day. One of our strongest impressions from RUG: the wireless conversation has become surprisingly mainstream.

Vol. I, Issue 2 "I can't believe everyone doesn't use this!" > March 2003
Over the past year we've seen attitudes toward wireless solutions change dramatically. Two years back, mobile data was a mystery. Last year, it was intriguing but elusive 3-G networks stymied growth. This year, it is finally beginning to live up to expectations. Subscriber growth and data sales are up and progressive IT organizations are realizing that the cost of waiting far exceeds the cost of taking action.

Vol. I, Issue 1 2003: Year of the Mobile Employee February 2003
It's the Year of the Ram but if January is any indication it also seems to be the year of the mobile employee. In recent weeks we've been swamped with requests from customers in the US and abroad. Mobile access to desktop applications is becoming a standard part of every Remedy installation. We're proud to welcome our newest friends in Australia, Brazil, France, England, the Philippines, Kuwait, and beyond.
